Poggio delle Civitelle

The first “Giostra della Quintana” was in 1946 on the occasion of 85th anniversary of the Mutual Aid Society. They decided to celebrate the event. They proposed the revival of an ancient equestrian competition in the period costume that took place during the Carnival in 1613. The Quintana had the only goal to attract the tourists and bring harmony among the people devastated by the Second World War. The name comes from Quintana fifth road of the typical Roman camps. The districts of the Quintana held in Foligno (at few kms from Poggio delle Civitelle) are currently 10 and they are divided into different areas of the city. Each neighborhood has a logo and its own colors so that you can identify the different districts:  Ammanniti, Badia, Cassero, Contrastanga, Crocebianca, Giotti, La Mora, Morlupo, Pugilli, Spada.
